Element selection field
A Run parameters block can display an “Element” field. It reads available elements from TM1 and lets a person select a valid principal name. This is useful for a period, plan version, department or scenario.
- Add a Run parameters block and create a parameter, for example
Scenario. - Choose type “Element” and a clear label, such as “Planning scenario”.
- Set the connection, dimension and hierarchy.
- Select a subset if you need to narrow the list.
- Set whether the field is required and specify a default value if appropriate.
- Preview the form and test finding the required element.
Public and private subsets
A parameter field can use a public subset or a private subset belonging to the connection user. The private setting applies specifically to that field's subset. It does not add support for private cube views.
Without a subset, the list is read from elements of the selected hierarchy. With saved credentials, the saved IBM user determines private subset availability. With a session connection, availability depends on the signed-in person.
Searching and validating a value
The list is paginated; search uses the principal element name and ignores case. For large dimensions, enter part of the required name. The selected value is validated in the context of the connection, hierarchy and, if specified, subset.
An “Element” parameter returns the principal name. If destination mapping uses an Alias, make sure you pass the value of that specific alias, or use principal-name mapping.
Where to use the selected element
- In cube dimension mapping: choose “Run parameter” as the value source, then the block and parameter name.
- In a pre-clear slice: choose “Run parameter” as the element source.
- In a dimension write: use a parameter for the consolidated parent.
- In a TI process parameter: link it to the required form field.
Example: field Scenario reads subset InputVersions from dimension Version. The user selects Budget, and the destination writes all rows to that version. Check that the parameter is linked to the correct block, particularly when a flow contains several forms.
