Purpose
Creates a new identifier for every row. Choose the method according to whether you need random uniqueness, a shared sequence across runs or simple numbering of the current dataset.
Inputs and outputs
One in input; out contains the new field column and every original field.
Parameters
| Parameter | Settings and values | Options and limits |
|---|---|---|
field | The new field name; ID by default. | Default: IDUp to 256 characters |
mode | guid — UUID v4; snowflake — a 64-bit identifier as text; sequence — a sequence. | Options: guid, snowflake, sequenceDefault: guid |
start | The sequence’s initial number. | Default: 1Limits: -9007199254740991…9007199254740991 |
step | A positive increment from 1 to 1000000. | Default: 1Limits: 1…1000000 |
worker_id | The installation identifier for Snowflake, from 0 to 1023. | Default: 0Limits: 0…1023 |
scope | run restarts the sequence; persistent continues it across runs. | Options: run, persistentDefault: run |
sequence_key | A shared, unique persistent-sequence name. | Default: emptyUp to 128 characters |
Step-by-step configuration
- Set a field name that does not already exist in the table.
- Choose the generation method.
- For sequence, set start, step and scope; for persistent, set sequence_key.
- For Snowflake, coordinate worker_id with other independent installations.
- Check the target field type and whether numbering gaps are acceptable.
Rules and diagnostics
- An existing field is not overwritten: ID_COLUMN_CONFLICT requires a different name.
- Preview generates new IDs. Persistent reservation can leave gaps after checks, errors and cancellations; numbers are not returned.
- The increment of an existing persistent sequence cannot be changed — use another sequence_key.
- Snowflake is passed as text to preserve precision and requires different worker_id values in independent systems. Significant clock rollback stops generation.
- A current-run sequence does not guarantee uniqueness across different runs.
Configuration example
For review-export rows, use field=RowNo, mode=sequence, start=1, step=1, scope=run. For a persistent request number, set scope=persistent and sequence_key=Requests.
