Purpose
Applies the same list of operations to selected columns in every row. Operation order matters: each operation works on the previous operation’s result.
Inputs and outputs
One in input and out output with the same structure. Selected non-empty values become text.
Parameters
| Parameter | Settings and values | Options and limits |
|---|---|---|
fields | The fields to which the action applies; element structure is described below. | Count: 1–256 |
operations | From 1 to 32 operations; kind specifies the action, count specifies the character count/space number, and keep specifies additional retained characters. | Count: 1–32 |
null | preserve keeps NULL; empty converts it to empty text. | Options: preserve, emptyDefault: preserve |
Text operation catalogue
| Parameter | What it configures |
|---|---|
| lower / upper | Lower / upper case. |
| capitalize / title | Capitalise the first letter of the entire text / every word. |
| trim / trim_start / trim_end | Remove spaces from both ends / the beginning / the end. |
| drop_start / drop_end | Remove count characters from the beginning / end. |
| keep_start / keep_end | Keep the first / last count characters. |
| before_space | Keep the text before space number count; if that space does not exist, keep the text unchanged. |
| remove_spaces / collapse_spaces | Remove all whitespace characters / replace sequences of them with one space. |
| transliterate | Deterministic transliteration. |
| remove_special | Keep letters, digits and additional keep characters. |
Step-by-step configuration
- Choose one or more columns.
- Decide how to handle NULL.
- Add and order the operations. For trimming, specify count; for removing special characters, specify keep.
- Check values with different cases, whitespace and language-specific characters.
Rules and diagnostics
- Operations change selected values in place, so make a copy of the column first if needed.
- Transliteration is deterministic for Cyrillic and Greek text, with removal of Latin diacritics; it is not a passport transliteration standard.
- remove_special keeps letters and digits, plus explicitly specified keep characters; add spaces to keep if they are required.
- A text result cannot exceed 32768 characters.
Configuration example
For ProductCode, apply trim → upper → remove_spaces. “ ab 001 ” becomes “AB001”. For a readable name, collapse_spaces is preferable because it preserves separation between words.
